Warning on scam phone calls

NEWS: November 11, 2015

According to a recent media release, Immigration New Zealand has been notified of a new wave of scam phone calls from individuals claiming to be INZ staff.

Callers posing as Immigration staff are telling unsuspecting respondents that they have been selected for a grant as part of a government-wide initiative.  Often the caller has some details of the person, such as a case reference number (although not matching INZ client or application numbers).

INZ urges if you receive one of these calls, do not pass on personal details or payment details to the caller. If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, INZ advise that you to contact the New Zealand Police to report the call.

Further advice on what to do if you think you have been the victim of a scam, can be found on the Consumer Affairs website.
