The Biometrics Institute has welcomed Stephanie Schuckers as the new Head of the Institute's Academic Research and Innovation Group, a committee within the Biometrics Institute.

"The academic research community represents an important part of the Biometrics Institute membership," explains Isabelle Moeller, Chief Executive, Biometrics Institute," and Dr Schuckers brings invaluable expertise to the Academic Research and Innovation Group. The aim of the group is to become an influential channel for relevant developments from the research community to be communicated to industry, government and the public."

Schuckers is the Paynter-Krigman Endowed Professor in Engineering Science in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clarkson University and serves as the Director of the Center of Identification Technology Research (CITeR), a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center.

Schuckers has started her own business, testified for Congress, and has over 40 journal publications as well as over 60 other academic publications. She has been a member of the Biometrics Institute for several years and has engaged pro-actively with the Biometrics Institute Vulnerability Assessment Group.

Schuckers outlines: "This academic committee has been set up to create even closer engagement between the research community and the broader biometrics industry. It offers a fantastic opportunity to create greater visibility and opinions on current research."

The Academic Research and Innovation Group includes several academic subject matter experts from around the world: Arun Ross from Michigan State University, USA, David White, University of New South Wales - School of Psychology (UNSW) Australia, Thirimahos Bourlai, West Virginia University, USA and Raul Sanchez-Reillo, University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M), Spain.

There are six committees within the Biometrics Institute focusing on privacy, borders, vulnerability assessments, technology innovation, digital services and the academic research. These Committees help lead priority work for the Biometrics Institute.

The Biometrics Institute is the not for profit independent and impartial international forum for biometrics users and other interested parties. It currently has over 220 member organisations representing over 950 individuals from government departments, financial services institutions, the aviation industry and also the suppliers of biometric products and services.
